Body TerrainHealing Arts

Healing Mind, Body, & Spirit in Boulder, Colorado

I am a licensed massage therapist who works with people recovering from injury, living with chronic pain, or wanting to feel at home in their body again.

The work

Navigating through your body's pain and potential

I take an integrative approach and combine medical, orthopedic, and Thai modalities into my work to offer the most comprehensive and customized massages for each of my clients. I specialize in injury management and surgical implants as these require a deep understanding of human anatomy and I have a first-hand understanding of this process.

My style, while direct and medical, also helps to calm the nervous system and create a safe environment for the healing process. I encourage clients to take an active role in their own healing via exercises, stretches, good dieting, breath work, and stress-relieving activities.

I ask what kind of pressure you want, every time, even with people I have been seeing for years. I actually think people know more about their bodies than anyone else.

About

Hi! I'm Izzy.

I was introduced to massage on my own healing journey after a traumatic accident in which I broke my back and wrist. While surgery "fixed" my spine, I was left with chronic pain for over 3 years and unable to enjoy my body how I wanted.

I began to search for alternatives to the standard medical model. This led me to acupuncture, feldenkrais, yoga, reiki, craniosacral therapy, and finally massage. All of these therapies helped some, but it was massage that finally reconnected me to my body and made me feel well enough to do the activities I love.

Today I am grateful for my accident and my healing journey as it has given me purpose and compassion to help others on theirs.

Approach

The body is not a machine

I don't think the body works like a machine. If your shoulder hurts it is easy to assume something in the shoulder is broken, and sometimes that is exactly what it is, but more often than not there is a lot going on in someone's life and the body is reacting to it.

I could feel that for years without having much to offer it, so I deepened my training to be able to hold more space for my clients. I took Gabor Maté's Compassionate Inquiry Training, which has been really helpful for my work. It gave me better questions to ask, so that instead of hearing someone tell me what is going on and just saying “I'm sorry to hear that”, I can help them get to some clarification or understanding of their situation.

The massage itself has not changed. What is different is that when something else comes up on the table, and it does, I feel equipped to help them get to the root of the problem with sensitivity and an awareness that helps guide clients towards honest resolution.

Izzy is the real deal. As a fellow LMT, I don’t say this lightly... his work is thorough and completely dropped in. He weaves myofascial release, deep tissue, and Thai together seamlessly, all held with intentional breathwork and a full-body-melt kind of presence. His energy is incredibly clean. You’re in good hands. Highly recommend!

I’ve started working with Izzy after rotator cuff/tendon surgery. My arm was in a brace for two months, which made a mess out of it, my wrist and hand are still swollen and stiff after four months and my arm just didn’t feel like part of my body. After one session with Izzy my arm feels like part of my body again, which is marvelous. He has wonderful hands and a beautiful intuition of where to work and how deep to go. I’m looking forward to many more sessions with him. Izzy is an energy healer as well as being an amazing massage therapist. BIG THANKS

Izzy is one of the best massage therapists on the Front Range and is overall a fantastic human. I work as a professional mountain guide and have been seeing Izzy for several years now. Because of the demanding nature of my job, aches and overuse injuries are super common. By seeing him several times throughout my busy seasons, I find that I recover faster and my body is happy and less prone to injuries. Izzy is extremely knowledgeable about the human body and is trained in a great variety of massage techniques. He is a hiker, climber, skier and outdoor enthusiast, so he really understands athletes bodies and what they need.

I truly loved the massage I received from Izzy. His space is warm and safe feeling and his technique and touch were powerful, effective, and relaxing. Almost most important of all for me, his presence and communication was warm, respectful, and professional. I highly recommend him.

Izzy is a healer. He’s been my massage therapist for years and has saved me from surgery on multiple occasions. He healed my dequervain’s tendonitis, provided me with breath work and exercises remotely during the pandemic, and has helped with repairing a herniated disk in my lower back. I cannot possibly recommend him enough. Izzy listens and makes a plan and you will never ever regret your time with him. My only complaint is that he doesn’t live closer! Enjoy him boulder :)

I was a person who did not believe in body massage. I tried to do it a long time ago, and instead of feeling my body (neck and back) better, my experience was not good because my body hurt more after my appointment, so I decided not to do it anymore. Like four months ago, my neck and back were killing me because of the stress of my job, so I know Izzy because I was working for his mother-in-law as a CNA, and he was talking to me about different types of massage, and he recommended I try again. I did and did not regret listening to him. Now I am on my third appointment, and I feel much, much better. And I discovered that I needed to spoil myself and have time for myself and my health. Izzy, you are an excellent and professional person. Thank you so much.

Izzy is both an excellent massage therapist and also just an awesome human being. He brings really grounded energy and kindness to the sessions. I feel he really cares about me personally and appreciates me. I like that he is on his own path of healing and spirituality — I see it as central to who he is and what he is able to offer others. If you have a chance to experience a session with him you are very fortunate.

Izzy is much more than a massage therapist. He is a gifted healer, very intuitive and talented in his pursuit help his patients find there mind-body balance and relief from pain. I had been struggling with intense pain and tension from my neck, back and right shoulder. After 3 sessions with other practitioners, I was not able to find hardly any relief. After one 90 min session with Izzy, I was able to find a dramatic shift that only continued to ralease own after our session. Its been 4 weeks and the pain hasn’t returned, than you Izzy 🙏🙏

Beyond the table

The rest of the work

There are a few other things I offer that don't happen on a massage table. They came out of the same place the bodywork came from, which is my own healing and the teachers who have guided me along the way.

None of it is bookable online. If you are interested in learning more, the first step is a free discovery call with me to ensure we are aligned.

Holding Space for Trauma

Talk sessions with a body-centered approach. I am certified through Gabor Maté's Compassionate Inquiry program. I am not going to tell you what your situation means, because I don't know, but people usually get there themselves when someone asks properly. In person or over video, sliding scale.

Psychedelic Integration

If you have done journey work and came back carrying something you are still sitting with, I can hold space for that. I ask questions rather than tell you what it meant.

Sacred Mountain Hike

A full day in the mountains, one on one, where we commune with nature in deep reverence and earth-based ceremony.

Trips to Peru

I take small groups down to work with elders and teachers I have been learning from for five years running. The next one goes to the Sacred Valley in September. Depending on the trip there is psychedelic work involved and sometimes there is not. We would talk about that before you came.

Other Offerings

Hybrid sessions that mix bodywork with energy work, inquiry and sound healing are not something I offer as a set thing. It is work I would only do with the right client. If that sounds like what you are looking for, ask me about it.

Finding the door

You can park right in front of the building. The studio door is the second door on the east side.

Head up to the second floor and wait in the waiting room. There are signs at the door and at the suite entrance for Body Terrain Massage.

Occasional letters

I send a note now and then about what I am reading, where I am going, and when there is space on a trip. Not often, and never anything I would not want to receive myself.
